OyeSpa, a new venture, is a full-service Aveda concept salon with a cafe, all aligned with Aveda’s mission of ethical and sustainable business practices and aesthetics. The goal was to offer food, massages, nail and hair services, and a party room for gatherings. The client’s architect introduced Shaw to the project, thinking we would be a good fit based on previous projects.
Shaw Construction worked in collaboration with the interior designer, architect, cafe & salon designers to develop a scope of work, overall budget, and schedule that worked for the client
Value engineering options identified in the design process allowed the construction to stay within the client’s budget, and the location was open as soon as COVID restrictions were lifted.
A combined Aveda concept salon and café was completed during the pandemic and met stringent standards from multiple entities.
Solutions Required
The initial design was more than the budget allowed.
Once it was clear the initial design was not fiscally feasible, Shaw worked with the client and design team to identify a list of value-engineering cost-saving options.
Aveda concept salon and restaurant in one meant both Aveda and Health Department approval was required.
Shaw and our team provided everything Aveda needed to approve design elements and participated in meetings with the client and Aveda. The Health Department required menu approval, kitchen compliance, and mechanical systems to accommodate a safe kitchen. Shaw worked with the client and architect to meet all Health Department needs.
Construction was scheduled during the COVID pandemic
To reduce the chance they would get sick, workers were scheduled so only one trade was in the space at a time.
